It turned out I had old oss* utils in /usr/bin, while the new ones were in /usr/local/bin. Once I removed the old ones, no "unknown" warnings were seen again.

Neither vmix0-channels Multich nor vmix0-src OFF solve the problem if vmix is enabled.

I use the FreeBSD port, which may cause discrepancies.

Didn't spot any compile-time error messages. Can you tell me what to add to ossmix.c?

"ossmix vmix0-enable OFF" did the trick, thanks! mplayer still blurts out the same messages, but both AC3 and DTS are passed through all right. I'd call the problem resolved, but if you still want to have a look at the output requested, here it is for both versions: http://dh.cenkes.org/os...

1016->1050 upgrade breaks AC3/DTS pass-through

I have just updated from 4.0b1016 to 4.1b1050 and ac3/dts pass-through doesn't work anymore. Here's what mplayer says: [AO OSS] Can't set audio device /dev/dsp to ac3 output, trying s16le... AO: [oss] 48000Hz 2ch s16le (2 bytes per sample) [format] Sample format big-endian AC3 not yet suppor...

Somewhere between January 15 and January 21 apparently the ABI was broken and I had to recompile OSS. It's now working great once again.

@dev: please install into /usr/local instead of /usr and into /usr/local/etc instead of /etc. Yes, it is critical. OSS utilities are part of the "core" system - and need to go in /usr/sbin and /sbin + /usr/bin. You can't have the system be in local because local may be remotely mounted. W...

oss-freebsd-v4.0rc2-170-i386 works fine on today's current.

@dev: please install into /usr/local instead of /usr and into /usr/local/etc instead of /etc. Yes, it is critical.

Thanks!

FreeBSD 7.x-CURRENT

I've just had a success running OSS 3.99.4b on recent -current with no hacks whatsoever. I'll be updating the status as time goes by.

OSS 3.99.4b + crossfading = 100% CPU

I've just upgraded to 3.99.4b and now experience very annoying CPU hogging when using xmms, beep-media-player or audacious with crossfade plugin. Most of the CPU load is printed as system in top(1) output. Unfortunately, I can't remember exactly what version I had been using before the upgrade. If y...

What says you can't restart devfs? I use this in a similar setting with USB devices. Works for me. Right. My first solution was to add perms and links to devfs.conf and then restart devfs just after soundon. Now I added this to /etc/devfs.rules: [devfs_oss=15] add path 'dsp*' mode 0660 group wheel ...

any updates on this? Actually, you can put something like this in your /etc/devfs.conf: perm dsp0 0660 perm mixer0 0660 perm audio0 0660 perm midi0 0660 link dsp0 dsp link mixer0 mixer link audio0 audio link midi0 midi and it'll work just fine. Change perm's to 0666, if you want them to be world-ac...
