1016->1050 upgrade breaks AC3/DTS pass-through
I have just updated from 4.0b1016 to 4.1b1050 and ac3/dts pass-through doesn't work anymore. Here's what mplayer says: [AO OSS] Can't set audio device /dev/dsp to ac3 output, trying s16le... AO: [oss] 48000Hz 2ch s16le (2 bytes per sample) [format] Sample format big-endian AC3 not yet suppor...

FreeBSD 7.x-CURRENT
I've just had a success running OSS 3.99.4b on recent -current with no hacks whatsoever. I'll be updating the status as time goes by.

OSS 3.99.4b + crossfading = 100% CPU
I've just upgraded to 3.99.4b and now experience very annoying CPU hogging when using xmms, beep-media-player or audacious with crossfade plugin. Most of the CPU load is printed as system in top(1) output. Unfortunately, I can't remember exactly what version I had been using before the upgrade. If y...

What says you can't restart devfs? I use this in a similar setting with USB devices. Works for me. Right. My first solution was to add perms and links to devfs.conf and then restart devfs just after soundon. Now I added this to /etc/devfs.rules: [devfs_oss=15] add path 'dsp*' mode 0660 group wheel ...

any updates on this? Actually, you can put something like this in your /etc/devfs.conf: perm dsp0 0660 perm mixer0 0660 perm audio0 0660 perm midi0 0660 link dsp0 dsp link mixer0 mixer link audio0 audio link midi0 midi and it'll work just fine. Change perm's to 0666, if you want them to be world-ac...
