Re: Issus with OSS and jack1 on Ubuntu 20.40

From dmesg.txt, RIP: 0010:_ZN15CHalSampleClock3SetEih+0x1cb/0x1bf0 [lynxtwo] shows the content of the instruction pointer when the fault occurred. This points to the next instruction to be obeyed and as it is not at the entry point of function _ZN15CHalSampleClock3SetEih I would assume that the faul...

OSS-v4.2-build2019 fail to compile on Linux >5.4

Linux modules for OSS-v4.2-build2019 fails to compile on Linux version 5.4 and later. Anyone requiring OSS-v4.2 for recent Linux kernels should compile from source available from the Open Sound System git repository at: https://sourceforge.net/p/opensound/git/ci/master/tree/ which was last updated o...

Re: Does not compile with kernel 5.2.1

Have amended patch to remove a stale symlink which could exist in build directory under fault conditions. Don't know why you had difficulty applying patch to source tree but two possibilities: ⋅ Wrong value in patch -p... option. Only -p3 in oss directory. ⋅ Windows line endings ...

What was the solution? The patch, adding -fno-PIE or both.

Re: AMD SB700 ALC888 ossrecord not working

As your microphone works with Alsa when plugged into the green jack I would suggest changing the green jack mode from front to input using:
ossmix jack.green.mode input
You may also find that ossxmix is easier to use when experimenting with the various mixer controls.

Sounds like a steam engine.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that OSS V4 none free unlicensed would occasionally sound like a steam engine as an incentive to purchase a full license. I don't know whether the code that provides this is still present in the GPL licensed version that I have built from source but the symptom I...

Re: Relinking the OSS kernel modules failed

If you are using kernel version 4.15.1 you will need to patch osscore.c (see viewtopic.php?f=3&t=5862 ) otherwise the required kernel module osscore.ko will fail to build.

Re: Kernel 4.15 osscore.c compile fix

Thanks for the patch! :) Do you want to submit it to the main repo (here, I think: https://sourceforge.net/p/opensound/git/ci/master/tree/)? Not sure that it would get approved. I see that your merge request from Christmas 2016 is still awaiting approval. I've no objection if you want to include th...

Re: Using OSS with Alsa

The problem isn't with the /dev/ tree but with interfacing with the actual hardware. If you had two soundcards it may be possible to use one with alsa and the other with oss but the configuration would be a nightmare as left to their own devices each driver would try to auto-configure to use both so...

Kernel 4.15 osscore.c compile fix

Following changes to linux/timer.h in Kernel version 4.15 osscore.c will not compile. So that, a new "magic patch" might be needed to compile OSS4 for Linux kernel 4.15. Right? I'm no magician but, for what it's worth, I have wrote the following patch: --- oss-v4.2-build2017-src-gpl-orig/s...

Re: Future of OSS on Linux

The OSS sound drivers that were formally included in the Linux kernel had the same genesis as the Open Sound System discussed in this forum. See http://www.opensound.com/ossfree/ for details. There is also README file in the kernel documentation that explains the situation with OssFree and its relat...
