OK, I get it. This ossxmix thingie is the graphic interface. It's right here next to ossmix at usr/bin/ossxmix. I'll bet there's some way to add it to the launch menu. ... That totally does the trick. Does anybody know how to make these settings stick through restart?

I was able to change the setting in allegro.conf, but I'm afraid I don't know what to do with the ossmix (I warned you I'm a newbie; actually that was the first time I was successful in finding a file (allegro.conf) by name with find). Hi, I'm running Solaris 10 on a Gateway Solo 1450. It got ESS 1988 Alegro PCI. At any rate, I installed PCIonly version first. Worked OK, volume was lower than I expected, but not bad. I had to do soundon every time I restarted. Then once when I did soundon, the whole system crashed and it appeared ...
