There are binaries of oss 3.9 avaliable for Solaris 8 / Solaris 9 (Not free to use unfortunately).

Or if its an ultrasparc you could try Solaris 10 (free to use) but I wouldn't bother without at least 1GB ram.

Solaris doesn't need ldconfig.

There is crle has some of the functions of ld.so.conf (and more)

If you wanted gstreamer plugins in /usr/local you would have to use crle. (I wouldn't recommend it though)

Rather than remove the unwanted sound card can you not just disable it in the BIOS? There is no BIOS on sparc Only Openboot (Sun's Open Firmware implementation). (And its maintained more and more badly after Sun got rid of the developers who understood it properly a few years ago - zfs boot being a...

If you look in oss_sadasupport.c You can see that /dev/dsp is hardwired. I tried hardwiring the full path but it failed didn't try using /dev/dsp3 etc DDB (cmn_err (CE_CONT, "Opening /dev/dsp (mode=%x)\n", tmp_file.mode)); if (ldi_ident_from_dev (dev, &devc->li) != 0) { cmn_err (CE_WAR...

I could make IPS packages for OSS relatively easily. (This issue has existed since indiana was started). The issue is that to run an IPS repository you need to run the IPS daemon. Also for OSS to work optimally with gnome its necessary to rebuild SUNWgnome-audio / SUNWgnome-media* And to get the oss...

Its is mostly to be an envy24 based card that is suitable. (They sound great - because of this they make the low profile versions for people to use in media centre pc's)

You can install pci cards into a PCI-X slot.

But the T2000 looks like it only takes low profile cards

I would recommend an envy24 or envy24ht based card with a low profile bracket.

ESI / Audiotrak Prodigy HD2 Low Profile first idea that came up on google
