Re: noises

Можно поставить Petrov's plugin for ALSA, тог...

Вывод с терминала можно перенаправить в текстовый файл, например: $ ossinfo > output_ossinfo.txt OSS4 does not support USB devices. There is an "experimental driver" ... Короче, дохлый номер. Можно его подрессировать, но овчинка выделки не стоит. Ваша USB soundcard не поддерживает HiRes au...

Re: [HowTo] Running OSS4 together with ALSA

Petrov's plugin for ALSA ALSA is difficult to configure, and its sound seems to be dangerous for health. The simplest solution for such problems might be Petrov's plugin for ALSA. It disables crappy resamplers of ALSA and replaces them with the "exact scientific resampler". ALSA configura...

Testing ALSA $ find /dev/snd -type c /dev/snd/controlC1 /dev/snd/pcmC1D0c /dev/snd/pcmC1D0p /dev/snd/seq /dev/snd/timer You can unloal ALSA with "alsa force-unload" $ sudo alsa force-unload Terminating processes: 2839 2839. Unloading ALSA sound driver modules: snd-usb-audio snd-pcm snd-ti...

[HowTo] Running OSS4 together with ALSA

There might be several reasons for loading ALSA drivers together with OSS4: 1. OSS4 does not support USB MIDI keyboards _http://ossnext.trueinstruments.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=5801 2 oss_wrapper (PulseAudio emulation for OSS4) fails to work with TeamSpeak3 [TS3], and some other apps. _http...

Re: Using OSS with Alsa

The problem isn't with the /dev/ tree but with interfacing with the actual hardware. If you had two soundcards it may be possible to use one with alsa and the other with oss but the configuration would be a nightmare as left to their own devices each driver would try to auto-configure to use both s...

Re: Using OSS with Alsa

I am interested in using OSS in conjunction with Alsa. That is, I want to eliminate the alsa oss-emulation and use OSS instead while still keeping alsa. Would it be sufficient to just compile the alsa kernel drivers without oss-emulation and then compile and install OSS? Or is this not possible? Al...

Re: Future of OSS on Linux

In short, the so-called "legacy OSS driver codes" are the legacy OSS v.3 (OSS3) driver codes. There are useless in an absolute sense, perhaps. These useless drivers "have been already disabled for a long time." _https://lkml.org/lkml/2017/11/14/346 The Linux developers simply rem...

Could somebody explain the future perspectives of OSS in Linux in conjunction with the following information about linux kernel 4.15 release? If there is no way to do that then for sure I will have to return this motherboard. Re: Kernel 4.12

So, I got a Gigabyte motherboard and as it turns out only kernel 4.12 has the IRQ fixes needed to run it. The problem is, OSS doesn't work with 4.12. It fails to compile oss_usb and while it will start, it encounters a problem if you try to play a sound. Could you please provide some info about you...
