Nice link! It looks like this could solve my problem. The fact that he mentions finding a solution to having audio break on unsuspend, which I've also encountered, is encouraging as well. I'll try it out and report back whether it works.

After installing from mercurial source, audio playback and recording now works quite well. Unfortunately, many of my applications are not working. I'll spawn a new thread about this, though.
