Re: osstest (and all sound) heavily distorted R. chn - hda-intel

there's been a bunch of patches on the dev mail list though none obviously for us, though one seemed close. I've been wondering if this would get some attention at the developer level and the others who contribute. Perhaps there'll be some info/luck soon-ish. It's great here on the forum with replie...

Re: HP netbook with IDT 92HD80 High Definition audio supported?

Learned a little I think. STAC92xx is sigmatel audio codec. IDT aquired Sigmatel some while back. So, IDT and Stac92 are related. yet I don't assume there's not lots of tiny gottchas possible. Yet now I'm not thinking that IDT is maybe some obscure unknown/new chipmaker or other and not a good choic...

Re: HP netbook with IDT 92HD80 High Definition audio supported?

interesting. well, not able to try as thought that an hp 2102 might be just by luck better than a regular mini 210. The 210 has ich7 and some version of stac or whatever it is. Can recall this second. it's still all about software mixing, loopback and the rest for podcasting, that i've yet to find t...

HP netbook with IDT 92HD80 High Definition audio supported?

hello! there's a netbook and some HP machines that have: IDT 92HD80 High Definition audio I was thinking that as a long shot just maybe it would perform better than intels HDA line for things like loopback recording etc. Rather than wonder I thought it could be possible here to find out if IDT 92HD8...

Re: Need facts>OSS: podcast w. music recording output AND input?

Thank you Igor! Very helpful bits in your post. Appears the heavy distortion on the right side is a bug/issue/problem that's known about. http://www.4front-tech.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=3553 I tried pulse / jack etc. months ago and am firmly decided not to use pulse or any other layers. Ju...

Re: Need facts>OSS: podcast w. music recording output AND input?

Extremely complimentary and useful post along with cesium's brilliant help. MUCH appreciated, with great thanks. Yes, funny that older internal chips are cooler. I recently had a couple of interesting sessions/attempts with HDA intel where the distortion was huge on just one side. See my other post ...

Re: Need facts>OSS: podcast w. music recording output AND input?

TOP NOTE: I am very much appreciative of how useful the forum and the best help possible is. Great way to end a study year and start a new one!))) RE: OSS emulating software mixing. I took a day to think though I'm still not skilled/understanding how I can 'try' to emulate the mix ability of a hardw...

Re: osstest (and all sound) heavily distorted R. chn - hda-intel

That is terrific to know. Great to rule out user error. I did try with my fresh install that hasn't had alsa-lib alsa-utils etc. installed. Same on any system. well, that's something! thank you very much ....again. Obviously a fix is of interest. I've had the same issue with latest mercurial from la...

Re: osstest (and all sound) heavily distorted R. chn - hda-intel

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=974179 This is exactly the same problem I'm having. Basically only spdout0 sounds normally. osstest -V. The results are: Left plays back at reduced volume Right plays back at clipping level (you can hear artifacts), but you can still hear the music. I also di...

osstest (and all sound) heavily distorted R. chn - hda-intel

Hi. I'm coming along nicely with OSS4.2. One thing that's stopped today now that I've had a great time with the SBlive is trying OSS on the laptop which has HDA ALC888 ICH9 audio chip. I've reinstalled, deleted everything and reinstalled, tried both latest mercurial and regular 4.2 2002 releases. Se...

Re: Need facts>OSS: podcast w. music recording output AND input?

NOTE ADDED: thinking that some 'vmixctl' magic based on the VIA AC97 (ossinfo -V2 below) might give the needed virtual i/o to have this card work like the SBlive did. Also: 'soundconf' is not available I think? Kinda happy to now konw that I'm going to be learning more about OSS. Using the motherbo...

Re: Need facts>OSS: podcast w. music recording output AND input?

Got EVERYTHING working in 5 minutes. Today I sat down thinking I'd get at least a bit of information from testing. I had thought I'd put the cofigs back to everything 'extra' off as default though I've just checked and there is still: core: vmix_loopdevs=1 audioloop: audioloop_instances=2 imux: imux...

Re: Need facts>OSS: podcast w. music recording output AND input?

Fantastic: I've got tons to work with. I'll do a day or more on looking to piece this together which will be genuinely fun. Very memorable. Amazingly helpful. Biggest thanks. I'll write back smarter (hopefully) in a day or 3 or so. No reply needed to this of course.. Life and those darn time clocks ...

Re: Need facts>OSS: podcast w. music recording output AND input?

Not sure if this still may apply as much. i.e. you may have to use the onboard or USB for voip's sound output, and the sblive for voip sound input for this option to work). You'll see why below... With alsa I used the virtual sound card driver 'snd_aloop' and although it doesn't have any volume cont...

Re: Need facts>OSS: podcast w. music recording output AND input?

WOW, thank you! So, don't need network support. scripts good! Need to be able to have OSS running on netbook with ICH9 / hda-intel and do the skype thing. (hopefully replace skype later) So far (last night) I tried to get skype to use oss_audioloop I think it was... only this didn't work the way I h...
