Compile error with ossdetect with glibc starting with version 2.23

So I stumbled at another problem, this time with newest glibc starting version 2.23. ossdetect.c:(.text+0xf2f): undefined reference to `makedev' After some search I found this topic on Gentoo forums: glibc 2.23 and undefined reference to `minor' or `major' Which gave me the idea to add #include <sys...

Kernel 4.11.0 osscore.c compile fix

So with Linux Kernel 4.11.0, osscore.c no longer compiles with error as follows: osscore.c:477:23: error: dereferencing pointer to incomplete type 'const struct cred' return current->cred->uid.val; So I "fiddled around" and came up with following fix: oss-4.9999-001_oss4_linux_4.11_osscore...

Re: oss_hdaudio broken with Linux 4.7.2 (Intel IOMMU conflicts with OSSv4) [semi-SOLVED]

Thank You Igor, but I prefer Gentoo. Not Arch because I would start using AUR and when you do, your distribution starts slowly migrate to almost full AUR, and AUR is far too weak in comparison with Gentoo Ebuild system. Not *buntu simply because it is release based, I ran from "Windows" wo...

Yes, I've also seen that topic.
I tried iommu=pt, no luck for me.

Re: oss_hdaudio broken with Linux 4.7.2

Sadly no manual for Ubuntu newbies managed to help me on my problem but I found the culprit my self: When I was "upgrading" from kernel 4.6.3 to 4.7.2, I decided to make some changes, among them was enabling IOMMU and, in particular, Intel-IOMMU. After searching a more "generalized&qu...

Re: oss_hdaudio broken with Linux 4.7.2

I tested oss_usb: no errors and empty /dev/oss/ oss_sblive: no errors on load, full set of files in /dev/oss/oss_sblive0/ but as soon as I try osstest I get simply spammed with these: [ 329.629665] dmar_fault: 26991 callbacks suppressed [ 329.629668] DMAR: DRHD: handling fault status reg 702 [ 329.6...

oss_hdaudio broken with Linux 4.7.2 (Intel IOMMU conflicts with OSSv4) [semi-SOLVED]

So "new" Kernel new problems: oss_hdaudio cannot load normally, no devices in /dev/oss and this is what I see in dmesg: [ 5244.546779] DMAR: DRHD: handling fault status reg 2 [ 5244.546785] DMAR: [DMA Read] Request device [00:1b.0] fault addr 3c000 [fault reason 02] Present bit in context ...

Re: oss and alsa simultaneouly

I'll look at that when I'll have more time, for now I'm siting on a suitcases to get on a plain, so no more time to "dilli-dally".

Re: oss and alsa simultaneouly

No I meant that the application of that will not work for us. The playback works because dmix support both "real" and complex sources where dsnoop support only "real", you can directly add type oss device /dev/dsp To palyback but we can't do the same for record, the only "se...

Re: oss and alsa simultaneouly

skype_oss_wrapper is already in use. OSS Emulation isn't going to work with recording simply because it wasn't designed to, through my attempts of getting Skype/TS3 to work with OSSv4, I've come around the documentation along side with blog post which in essence explained exactly that, no recording ...

Re: oss and alsa simultaneouly

I hoped that this will work, no dice. :( I've learned the hard way that in both ALSA and PulseAudio, support, if any, for OSSv4 is confined by output, there is literally NO support for microphone or any type of input in there. And if in case of Skype, there simply no sound for input, for TS3 If a tr...

Re: oss and alsa simultaneouly

Of course that will, but that mean that I'll need to add that as a constant background process and make sure it runes all the time I use TS3 and shut it down in case I need to restart OSSv4 service, so more addition in service file...
A bit of cumbersome solution.

Re: oss and alsa simultaneouly

In ideal world We wouldn't need all this. We'd just had a virtual ALSA sound card shipped with OSSv4 like a module, some thing like snd_virtual.ko compiled at the same time as all other OSSv4 modules and We could just tell which of source to link to in and out of that virtual ALSA sound card, and it...
