Re: oss not working with kernel 4.8 [SOLVED]

Thank you very much for all of your work.

I confirm that the patch works and I've got working OSS on Ubuntu 16.10 with kernel 4.8.

Re: oss not working with kernel 4.8

On Ubuntu 16.10 I can't even get the modules to build. I've tried also with newest 4.4 kernel from Ubuntu Kernel Mainline PPA and that also fails. Relinking OSS kernel modules for "4.4.35-040435-generic SMP mod_unload modversions " This may take few moments - please stand by... OSS build e...

Re: Support for Pepper Flash / HTML5 vids?

The problem is not that "OSS4 can't produce sound with HTML5 videos", but that out of some reason the Google devs refuse to add OSS support. I'm going to go make a thread about adding OSS support on the Chromium forums. I love Chromium, and can't see my self using any other browser. I lov...

Re: Any distro or live operating system with OSS by default?

Ah, I'm sincerely sorry you are right of course. Now it makes sense, but I really overread the " only " and right this would not happen if it was compiled only with OSS support. My fault... and I agree, it's pretty cool from the Mint devs to maintain OSS support! Mint devs have nothing to...

Re: Patch for 4.2.2008 for 3.12

I compiled the Git repository version and it says Build ID will be 2006 Why does it seem the Git version is two years late, whereas the latest binaries are 2008? The source archives respond with a build ID 2008. The git version isn't behind but it simply doesn't have the new tag. Also it has fixes ...

Re: Patch for 4.2.2008 for 3.12

This does not mean that it is owned by "root" in any distro. Linux Mint 14 does not have /usr/src I would think that the directory in a "root" filesystem must be owned by "root" in any distribution. In Ubuntu you have kernel headers and NVIDIA drivers sources and for e...

Most probably, Ubuntu users misunderstood something.

In Ubuntu /usr/src directory is owned by "root" (both owner and group).

Re: Patch for 4.2.2008 for 3.12

"sudo git" might be replaced with "git", and the download folder should not be owned by root. "sudo hg" is also very suspicious _https://help.ubuntu.com/community/OpenSound#Building_from_Source For example, "apt-get source" is not supposed to be run by root. ...

Re: Patch for 4.2.2008 for 3.12

I'm on Ubuntu 14.04 (development branch) now and so far OSSv4 worked with every kernel in this release (there were 3.12 and now they are 3.13). The default GCC is 4.8 and this also worked but maybe it's a little bit different than the one in Debian. $ gcc -v Using built-in specs. COLLECT_GCC=/usr/bi...

Re: Patch for 4.2.2008 for 3.12

Thank you very much for the patch it worked. I installed yesterday kernel 3.12.1 from Ubuntu Mainline Kernel PPA and today I couldn't get OSS to work so I applied your patch to /usr/lib/oss/build/osscore.c and then the modules build successfully. NOTE: I'm using OSSv4.2 builded from git repository a...

Re: OSS modules won't build Kernel 3.10

I already moved to Ubuntu 13.10 and I didn't have problems with building a .deb package. I cloned git repo into /usr/src/opensound-git directory. This repo already incorporates Linux kernel patches for 3.8, 3.10 and 3.11 kernels. $ sudo git clone git://git.code.sf.net/p/opensound/git opensound-git T...

OSS modules won't build Kernel 3.10

Linus and company released Kernel 3.10 and unfortunately OSSv4 isn't compatible with it just like before it had problems with 3.8 version. This kernel is already available in Saucy development version of Ubuntu 13.10 which most likely will ship with 3.11 in October. I've installed it from Ubuntu Mai...

Re: Building OSS modules for 3.8.0 Linux Kernel

I've had that problem when 3.8 was in development and cesium the moderator of this forum posted a patch and instructions how to use it either when building new oss4 package or applying to the one already installed. OSS modules won't build Kernel 3.8-rc6 NOTE: The file posted by nuc is exactly the sa...

Re: Support for Pepper Flash / HTML5 vids?

There is a bugreport on the chromium bugtracker which claim it to be OSSv4 fault, not Chromium's: https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=158478 If you look at the status of that bug you will see that it's already fixed. You need to have Chrome / Chromium from the stable 26 series (the ...

Re: OSS modules won't build Kernel 3.8-rc6

Thank you very much Cesium. I applied your patch directly to /usr/lib/oss/build/ and then all the modules builded succesfully. Know I've got OSSv4 sound working with 3.8-rc6 kernel.
