Re: No 32 bit output with on-board Intel HDA

3) /usr/lib/oss/conf/osscore.conf cooked_enable=0 vmix_disabled=1 vmix_no_autoattach=1 If the COOKEDMODE is disabled in osscore.conf, it does not mean that it is really disabled. It can be enabled by an audio application, and your HiRes audio might be converted to a "digital crap" with a ...

Re: Why OSS sound quality is superior vs ALSA

Very good, but it is not a job for me... Presumably there are many others who could do this task. Yes. Let them try. In a word, our brothers in Vanuatu are still trying to put their theories about the true secret of Cargo into practice. Although, such theories may look very logical, reasonable, and...

Re: No 32 bit output with on-board Intel HDA

Yes it seems to be similar case. Alsa identifies my codec as ALC1200. So there's nothing to do about it. Nevertheless I will stay with oss as the quality of sound it produces is much more superior to alsa even in such buggy situation. In this case, you may try all sorts of configurations, to see wh...

Re: No 32 bit output with on-board Intel HDA

It seems that your codec was misidentified as ALC888. That is why you have sound distortions. If a codec is misidentified by OSS4, you may have all sorts of strange phenomena. _http://ossnext.trueinstruments.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3553 Perhaps, ALSA may tell something else about your codec. What ...

Re: Why OSS sound quality is superior vs ALSA

I can not compile aplay.c because aconfig.h is missing. It depends aconfig.h.in and presumably I would have to complie the complete ALSA package from source to get it. alsa-utils contains various generic ALSA command line tools, such as amixer, aplay , alsaconf, etc. _http://www.alsa-project.org/ma...

Re: No 32 bit output with on-board Intel HDA

Have you tried 24bit waves with /dev/oss/oss_hdaudio0/spdout0 ? osstest (and all sound) heavily distorted R. chn - hda-intel _http://ossnext.trueinstruments.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3553 It's a known problem with ALC1200 (detected as ALC888 by OSS. ALC1200 is ALC888 with different revision, IIRC?)....

Re: No 32 bit output with on-board Intel HDA

/dev/oss/oss_hdaudio0/spdout0 is the only device that reproduces sound without distortion. Are you going to say that you do not want to use analog devices with OSS4, because you are a member of the BitPerfect cult? For analog devices, you can use 32bit with OSS4 (according to ossinfo). But for &quo...

Post here the complete output of this commands: $ ossinfo -v9 32-bit analog output works with my HDA codec without any problems. or "sound distortions". My "HD Audio play front": $ ossinfo -v9 Audio devices HD Audio play front /dev/oss/oss_hdaudio0/pcm0 (device index 0) Legacy de...

Re: Why OSS sound quality is superior vs ALSA

I am sure you are right in that there is an audible difference between ALSA and OSS4 when one uses the software you mention. I do not distrust observations. The explanation you give: "it is impossible to disable some bad extra software layer in ALSA is not correct however." The problem is...

Re: Why OSS sound quality is superior vs ALSA

This topic was started by "ossuserr", because he does hear the difference between ALSA and OSS4, and he wants to know the true secret of OSS4. It seems that a large majority of OSS4 users are using OSS4 exactly because they hear the difference. Otherwise, they might be perfectly happy with...

Re: Tricks of OSS installation to gentoo and funtoo

OSS isn't available on funtoo overlay anymore. Such a shame.. uh.. Cannot compile due to os.h problem with current git snapshot. Patch didn't work due to pointing incorrect "os.h" out and stops me from using "configure". According to _gpo.zugaina.org there is only one overlay su...
