There are two types of dependencies: 1. real dependencies (e.g., apps may really need some libs to be able to work). 2. imaginary dependencies (they are defined in a text file inside a deb-p...

[HowTo] Hacking dependencies with DEBIAN/control

WARNING: The blind and the stupid are not supposed to hack dependencies. The stupid may misunderstand something. The blind may not notice some warnings. Since deafness correlates with stupidity, Ubuntu users may not need to hack any dependencies. They might be perfectly happy with ALSA and PulseAud...

that guru is kind of learning programing and is using debian If the great guru is using Debian, he might already have learned the art of "Debian packaging". It is a sort of very strange shamanism. Those, who do not want to practice such shamanism, are using Gentoo, or Funtoo. jackd2 deb-p...

Re: Why OSS sound quality is superior vs ALSA

Also there is no guarantee that the binary with static-libs will work. One guy told me that jackd clients can use only the shared jackd library and building static jackd2 is useless. 1. Applications, that use jackd need libjack0 and they will try to install jackd if you try to install them to get t...

Re: Why OSS sound quality is superior vs ALSA

Maybe we need to organize a spiritism session to ask Elena Blavatskaya to give that knowledge :) Or Jakob Blumkin :) I don't think that it's possible to make a static build of jackd in an easy way because the flag USE="static-libs" is missing on gen2. And that guru is kind of learning pro...

Re: Why OSS sound quality is superior vs ALSA

The situation was like that: 1. One guy A told he possesses the knowledge to unblock full sound levels via alsa and that guy B taught him a lot of hackds about alsa. And that he, guy A knows how to put any driver into the kernel image. 2. In several days i contact guy B and he denies the info provi...

Let me disagree with you strongly. O.K. Let us put it in this way: 1. They claim that they have a "secret esoteric knowledge", which you do not have. 2. You firmly believe that they have the "secret esoteric knowledge", which you do not have. Do you agree with these two statemen...

Re: Why OSS sound quality is superior vs ALSA

"By the way there is a secret esoteric knowledge with alsa also" - one of jackd developers confessed to me. There is a possibility to unblock full power supply to the card like it's done on OSS BY DEFAULT. Unfortunately, my internet broke before the guy told me the way to hack alsa... Sti...

16bit + 16bit = 32bit + Noise

Oss Backend Parameters
-w, --wordlength int
Specify the sample size in bits. The default is 16.

ossuserr wrote:you can get a terrible hissing noise

Such noise can be produced by OSS4 resamplers at downsampling
(e.g. 192kHz → 48kHz, or 96kHz → 48kHz). It depends on audio files.
