HP netbook with IDT 92HD80 High Definition audio supported?

Postby yvon » Tue Feb 16, 2010 8:14 pm

hello!

there's a netbook and some HP machines that have:
IDT 92HD80 High Definition audio

I was thinking that as a long shot just maybe it would perform better than intels HDA line for things like loopback recording etc. Rather than wonder I thought it could be possible here to find out if IDT 92HD80 High Definition audio is supported and if it has any desireable quirks/features/operability.

It's a bit difficult in hdaudio case to know, since every codec has slightly different behaviour... Best option is to try it. There was a recent small change involving IDT, so you may want to try building the source from mercurial and installing that, instead of using a package from this site...

interesting. well, not able to try as thought that an hp 2102 might be just by luck better than a regular mini 210. The 210 has ich7 and some version of stac or whatever it is. Can recall this second.

it's still all about software mixing, loopback and the rest for podcasting, that i've yet to find time and luck to actually getting working without a hardware mixing card.

So, certainly many thanks and good about development happening. My thought is that intel is the way to go for likelihood/eventualities. then agian.... dunno of course.

Learned a little I think. STAC92xx is sigmatel audio codec. IDT aquired Sigmatel some while back.
So, IDT and Stac92 are related. yet I don't assume there's not lots of tiny gottchas possible. Yet now I'm not thinking that IDT is maybe some obscure unknown/new chipmaker or other and not a good choice of OSS.

thanks for he motivation to keep thinking/reading on this!
