Re: HOWTO: Skype with OSS4 on Ubuntu 9.10 Beta
tl1: A tip which might help you - As you probably know, vmix layer (among other functions) aggregates output and input nodes to a single node. These however don't have to be from same card! You can use vmixctl to attach vmix so that the first card's output and the second card's input are aggregated which might help configuration. (Basically the procedure is the same as this, except you don't need to change the symlink and you probably do need to set vmix_no_autoattach). There's an argument that this setup can get slightly desynchronized if the card's clocks aren't the same, but I haven't heard this in practice yet...

Thanks, I'll keep it in mind, but for now I'll just stick with old "Skype OSS static" because I don't want to modify all my recording scripts. I hope apps like Amarok, mplayer, Audacity, Flash, Wine will never drop support for OSS and ALSA in favour of something as stupid as PA.

A practical solution for Skype for 17 Euro - webcam + headset (analog, with mic)
Logitech QuickCam E 3500 Plus inkl. Headset + Microphone (analog)
http://www.amazon.de/Logitech-QuickCam- ... 201&sr=1-9
-------------------------------
Install Logitech Quickcam E 3500 Plus on Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron
http://www.econowics.com/tech-gadget/16 ... rdy-heron/
On Linux, webcam Logitech Quickcam E3500 Plus works out of the box on Skype (without installing any drivers).
I have already tested it with Arch Linux (skype-oss + oss4).
Everything works well: webcam, and headset (analog), and microphone (analog).

There is a new M$-Skype forum for Skype/iPhone support: http://community.skype.com/t5/iPhone/bd-p/iPhone
As I remember, it was problematic, see the old forum: http://forum.skype.com/index.php?showforum=239
It is not very probable that Microsoft is going to develop Skype for Mac OS and iPhone, or Linux and Android.
In late June, Zuckerberg told a Seattle audience that Facebook would unveil something "awesome" today, and last week, Techcrunch reported that this would involve integrating the social network with the Skype VoIP service, which is now owned by Microsoft. Redmond is a Facebook investor and longtime Facebook partner. Microsoft's Bing underpins search on Facebook, and Facebook may be used to personalized your results on Bing. Microsoft announced in May it's buying Skype for $8.5bn http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/07/06 ... ouncement/
You may try FaceFlow, it is free and cross-platform (Windows, Mac OS, Linux, etc.) viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4367
