Just switch to OSS4 in Arch Linux, and the front right speaker spits out garbled sound, every other speaker works fine though

The hdaudio used is an ALC1200, right? Unfortunately, the only workaround for OSS for this codec I'm aware of is the modify the slider (don't remember which exactly - probably the green one?) in ossxmix so that the right channel volume is lower...

I have the same problem with my onboard sound chip (ALC888 - Realtek codec). Left speaker sounds ok, right speaker is garbage.

ALC1200 is a different revision of the ALC888, so you probably have an ALC1200 too... (cat /proc/asound/cards under ALSA will probably show you this).

Hello. I've found a workaround for this problem. (latest -hg snapshot)

Testing again with osstest, one test didn't blast my ears to bits.

This one:
/dev/oss/oss_hdaudio0/spdout0 (audio engine 5): HD Audio play spdif-out
- Performing audio playback test...

After I symlinked /dev/oss/oss_hdaudio0/spdout0 to /dev/oss/oss_hdaudio0/pcm0 the sound worked perfectly. Maybe this is a hint for the OSS developers to fix the bug.

EDIT:
It only works if I disable input-mix.

EDIT2:
this workaround disables vmix

You can attach vmix again using vmixctl command. See here and "vmixctl" manpage for details.

Thank you. OSS works beautifully now :)
