No. of Raw Device Output in Envy24ht

Postby twlaipeter » Wed Oct 05, 2016 4:15 am

Hi all,

I use OSS for my envy24ht sound card. My previous post about Envy24's Raw IO Device is here: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=5783

I now intend to use the ecasound to perform the digital crossover:
http://rtaylor.sites.tru.ca/2013/06/25/ ... are-howto/
http://audio.claub.net/software/LADSPA/ ... LADSPA.txt

As a result of the crossover filter, a 4 channel audio stream is routed to envy24ht for play back. To this end, I wish to use Raw Output Device of the envy24ht to output the 2 stereo digital streams (one stereo for high pass and another for low pass) to 2 stereo DACs.

The oss envy24 manpage is here: http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/wil ... y24.7.html. Under the Section "Raw IO Devices", it reads:-

"Number of channels is fixed and cannot be changed. The output device has always 10 channels (0 to 7 are analog outputs and 8 to 9 are the digital outputs). This assignment will be used even with cards that don't support digital (or analog) outputs at all. If the actual hardware being used has less channels the unused ones will be discarded (however they will be fed to the on board monitor mixer)."

It appears that only 2 digital channels are available for Raw IO.

My question:
(1) Can I output the 2 stereo digital streams (1 high pass and 1 low pass) using envy24ht's Raw IO Device to 2 stereo DACs?
(2) If not, may I use 2 envy24ht sound card in the system to do the same?

Regards,
Peter LAI
