Hi,

I have a Dell Inspiron 1420 which I installed OpenSolaris b72 on, and the laptop speakers won't work, but the headphone jacks do. I do get ssome codec errors on startup:

hdaudio: [ID 486316 kern.notice] NOTICE: Unknown HDA codec 0x83847616
hdaudio: [ID 486316 kern.notice] NOTICE: Unknown HDA codec 0x14f12c06

Any clue howI can solve this? Having to use headphones all the time is REALLY annoying.

Hello,

Can you figure out what codec does your card have? for example by using Alsa under a Linux livecd.
If you find out you can try to modify the OSS hda driver and add your card's ID to whatever codec it belongs to.

I hope this heps,
cristi

From the device ID it would appear that you have a Sigmatel STAC9228 codec.
The second ID belongs to your modem

Yes, I knew it was a STAC9228, I figured I wouldn't need to give that information. What is it that it's looking for? Does OSS support this device?
