crashing at first MIDI

Postby lupacexi » Thu Jan 18, 2018 6:03 pm

I manually run a small MIDI file after starting X11 to reset my soundcard. If I wait more than about a minute before sending this file, the whole system freezes, and then reboots. The system does not dump core. If I run this MIDI file soon enough after starting X11, all is fine.

The problem existed under FreeBSD 6.0, but has become more regular under FreeBSD 6.1.

FreeBSD 6.1-RELEASE #0
with SMP kernel
oss3994a-freebsd-x86-v6.0-RELEASE.tar.gz
MediaTrix AudioTrix 3D-XG (ISA)

I use the two scripts posted in this forum
for /etc/devfs.rules and for /usr/local/etc/rc.d/oss.sh
to set device permissions.

The MIDI file came from MediaTrix, and resets the card so that both audio channels are available. (power-on default sets them to MIDI instead of digital audio)
I send it using /usr/local/lib/oss/bin/ossmplay as an ordinary user.

I just want to get this information into the queue in case it affects someone else.

Thanks for any suggestions.
