Kernel Panic on 6.0-STABLE with OSS

Postby draconius » Fri Nov 11, 2005 1:13 am

howdy...I just updated from 5.4-STABLE to 6.0-STABLE on my main workstation, and went from a nice working OSS setup, to kernel panics when loading OSS....
specifically, this is the output I get when I run soundon:

Code: Select all

WARNING: Device driver "

Fatal trap 12: page fault while in kernel mode
cpuid = 0; apic id = 00
fault virtual address   = 0x400000
fault code              = supervisor read, page not present
instruction pointer     = 0x20:0xc074a868
stack pointer           = 0x28:0xe7930a1c
frame pointer           = 0x28:0xe7930a1c
code segment            = base 0x0, limit 0xfffff, type 0x1b
                        = DPL 0, pres 1, def32 1, gran 1
processor eflags        = interrupt enabled, resume, IOPL = 0
current process         = 911 (kldload)
trap number             = 12
panic: page fault
cpuid = 0
Uptime: 1m39s

I have no clue what is going on, I am having no other problems with any other software on this machine...

some info on my setup:
FreeBSD 6.0-STABLE (just upgraded from 5.4-STABLE)
OSS Version 3993c
dual 1ghz pIII coppermine
1GB pc133/reg kingston sdram
Supermicro p6dle motherboard
Chaintech AV710 PCI soundcard (ENVY24 driver)

I am lost...and I thought I would ask here and see if anybody had some tips for me...thanks!

If you still have the driver for 5.4 installed, that is why you are getting a kernel panic. 5.4 kernel modules are not compatible with 6.0. You need to download and install the OSS package specifically built for 6.0-RELEASE.
