mercurial repository is still tagged as build 2004 (build 2005 available), will we see update any time soon?

Strange... Is it "closed source"?
There was an "upgrade" of the Arch package a few days ago:
Code: Select all
$ pacman -Qi oss
Name : oss
Version : 4.2_2004-2
URL : http://developer.opensound.com/
Licenses : GPL2Just updated ABS, but "oss" is still "pkgver=4.2_2004":
Code: Select all
# $Id: PKGBUILD 53275 2011-08-02 16:11:02Z bluewind $
# Maintainer: Florian Pritz <bluewind@xinu.at>
# Contributor: Paulo Matias <matiasΘarchlinux-br·org>
# Contributor: Daniel J Griffiths <ghost1227@archlinux.us>
pkgname=oss
pkgver=4.2_2004
pkgrel=2
pkgdesc="Open Sound System UNIX audio architecture"
arch=('i686' 'x86_64')
url="http://developer.opensound.com/"
license=('GPL2')Code: Select all
$ makepkg -g

Aborting...However, the "closed source" oss-linux-v4.2-2005-i686.tar.bz2 is available:
Click here to download OSS for linux_26_x86_tar
http://www.4front-tech.com/release/oss- ... 86.tar.bz2
Please look here for installation instructions.
http://www.opensound.com/release/oss-install.pdf
Installation Steps:
TAR package:Code: Select all
cd /
tar –jxvf oss-linux-v4.0-123-
i386.tar.bz2
sh /usr/lib/oss/build/install.sh
2. You will have to reboot the system if OSS replaced any driver previously detected.
3. To test that the audio package is correctly installed type: osstest and you should hear the test sounds on the front left, right and both speakers. Now log out of the console session
Uninstallation Steps:
• TAR Package:
Code: Select all
sh /usr/lib/oss/scripts/removeoss.sh
2. To restore any original audio driver confi
gured prior to OSS you will need to use
your distribution’s audio device
configurator. Log out and log back in.
That oss-linux-v4.2-2005-i686.tar.bz2 is a compiled "closed source" version (/usr + /etc ) which can be easily re-packed into an Arch Linux package.
The prebuilt packages available for download on this page are licensed under the 4Front Commercial License. These packages contain drivers which are not licensed under the various Open Source license. http://www.opensound.com/download.cgi
It is necessary to make this clear, because Ubuntu users tend to believe that "tar.bz2" means "source code". They simply installed this package with install.sh script and believe that they compiled OSS4 from "source".
This particular "closed source" OSS4 seems to be licensed for about 6 months. It should stop to work when the licence is expired.
